Despite the name, Bryce Canyon National Park is known for its natural amphitheaters and hoodoos, not for a canyon. These hoodoos are towering spires of vibrantly colored rock and lend the park its distinctive, otherworldly appearance. Hiking is the best way to view the horseshoe-shaped amphitheaters and impressive hoodoos, though there are also scenic overlooks that sit just off the road for easy viewing. Camping is allowed at either of the park's two campgrounds, but start any trip with a stop at the visitor center, where maps and park rangers can help you pick your route. This park abuts Dixie National Forest which wraps around three sides of the park and the only towns within easy driving distance of the park are quite small, with Cedar City about a two hour drive to the west.
Park open daily year round. Visitor center open daily May - Sep: 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.; Apr & Oct: 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.; Nov - Mar: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Entry fee (7 day pass): Vehicle $25; Individual $12.
